Congratulations to our Trustee Prof Michelle Briggs on her new role at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
Professor Michelle Briggs has been appointed as Clinical Professor of Nursing at the University of Liverpool and Director of Nursing (Research and Academic Development) LUHFT. The post is a joint appointment with the University of Liverpool.
In the role Prof Briggs, will lead the expansion of research and clinical academic careers in Nursing in LUHFT and the University of Liverpool. She will be the first Clinical Chair in Nursing at LUFHT and will contribute to the internationally excellent research of the Liverpool Pain Research Institute.
Prof Briggs is currently Clinical Professor of Nursing at the University of Manchester and Director of Nursing Research at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust, where she leads the Manchester Clinical Academic Centre for Nurses, Midwives, and Allied Health professionals. Other roles Michelle holds include being a National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Doctoral Clinical Academic Fellowship panel member and academic career development lead for NIHR Greater Manchester – Applied Research Collaboration.

As one of the largest professions in the NHS workforce, I am very much looking forward to working in Liverpool to strengthen the nursing voice and help release their research power and potential to benefit staff and the communities we serve. ” .

We look forward to developing our current research offer, increasing capacity, capability and knowledge, and continuing to improve the care we deliver to our patients.”
Professor Briggs will continue as Deputy Chair of the UK Council of Deans Healthcare Professionals Clinical Academic Roles and Career Pathways Implementation Network (CARIN), and a member of the national steering group for the (NIHR) Nursing and Midwifery Incubator.
Professor Briggs will begin her role at LUHFT on 13 November 2023.
